Multitail is a utility to view, follow (update in real-time), search, and highlight text files — especially log files — and text command output. It is very useful for system monitoring.

I was unhappy with the default config. I found some of the colors hard to read, the structure unclear, and the pattern matching confusing. I spent a fair bit of time overhauling it all, and thought others might find the result useful.

I use a directory /etc/multitail/ for the several config files, and place a symlink at /etc/multitail.conf pointing to /etc/multitail/main.conf to hook it together.
